Crochet Lanyard Pattern

This pattern can be adapted to make wristlets and smaller key fobs too.

You will need to work in multiples of 2 to make your initial chain to the length you require.

I chain 138 to get my preferred lanyard length.

I also find using a cotton really brings out the lovely texture in this stitch and doesn’t overstretch too much once in use.

Ch138

Row 1: Hook into second Ch on your hook, yarn over and pull through so you have 2 loops on your hook. Hook into next Ch, yarn over and pull through so you have 3 loops on your hook. Repeat until 6 loops on your hoop. Yarn over, pull through all 6 loops and secure with a ch.

*Pop your hook into the eye on the star you have just created, yarn over, pull through so you have 2 loops on your hook. Pop your hook into the leg of that first star, yarn over, pull through so you have 3 loops on your hook. Pop your hook into the join between the previous star and the chain, yarn over, pull through so you have 4 loops on your hook.  Hook into next Ch, yarn over and pull through so you have 5 loops on your hook. Hook into next Ch, yarn over and pull through so you have 6 loops on your hook.  Yarn over, pull through all 6 loops and secure with a ch.

Repeat from * until you work the entire length of your row. In the last ch of your row, pop a htr in the same space as the last leg of the star. Turn your work.

Row 2: Ch1, 2htr into each eye along the length of you Row 1. Pop your hook into the first ch of the previous row and SS.

Continue round to the left of your project, SS around the initial chain row to give both edges of your lanyard a raised edge.

Secure and fasten.

Lay your lanyard with both ends RS up facing you, and place one on top of the other. Slide the D ring in between the layers and stitch the lanyard together around the D ring securing it in place as well as closing the two ends together.
